PROGRESSIVIST DOCUMENT OF THE WEEK

Paul VI's Death Mourned by the Italian Communist Party

On the occasion of the death of Pope Paul VI, August 6, 1978, the Italian Communist Party paid for an ad to be published in Italian newspapers. It was also posted on the walls of Rome and adjacent cities.

At right, the original ad by the Italian Communist Party. Below, our translation from Italian.

The Communists
of
Rome and Provincia
express sorrow and condolences
for the death of
Paul VI
Bishop of Rome
and remember him
not only for his passionate effort
and elevated humanity
with which he worked for the peace
and progress of the peoples,
by promoting dialogue,
understanding and possible agreements
among men of different faiths and ideals,
but also for his constant concern
for the moral and material
restoration of Rome.
