Jesum Tradidit Impius

Reflections for Holy Week

Jesum tradidit impius is the eleventh responsorio for Holy Week. The wicked apostle, Judas, has delivered Our Lord to the chief priests of the Jews. Caiaphas, the high priest, along with the Scribes and Pharisees, hold council to decide the fate of Our Lord. Peter, head of the Apostles, follows only at a distance for fear of coming closer and also being imprisoned...

Jesum tradidit impius was composed by Fr. Tomás Luis de Victoria.
It is here sung by the Ensemble Corund

Latin Lyrics:

Jesum tradidit impius summis
Principibus sacerdotum,
Et senioribus populi.

Petrus autem sequebatur Eum a longe,
Ut videret finem.

Adduxerunt autem Eum ad Caipham
Principem sacerdotum,
Ubi scribae et pharisaei convenerant.

Petrus autem sequebatur eum a longe,
Ut videret finem.
Translation:

The very wicked man (Judas) delivered Jesus
To the chief priests,
And the elders of the people.

Peter followed Him from a distance,
To see the end.

They led Him to Caiaphas,
The high priest,
Where the Scribes & the Pharisees were gathering.

Peter followed Him from a distance,
To see the end.
