Spanish Christmas Carol

A la Nanita Nana

A la Nanita Nana or Let Us Sing a Lullaby is a 19th century Spanish Christmas carol sung as a lullaby to the Child Jesus. With solemn respect, the singers intone a lullaby to God who has taken the form of a Child on this Christmas Day. With tender words and loving melody, we remind the world to be silent in respect to the Creator-made-Man, now resting in a manger.

A la Nanita Nana was composed by José Ramón Gomes.
It is here sung by the Swedish choir Orphei Drängar.

Spanish Lyrics:

A la nanita nana, nanita ea,
Nanita ea,
Mi Jesús tiene sueño.
Bendito sea, bendito sea.

A la nanita nana, nanita ea,
Nanita ea,
Mi Jesús tiene sueño.
Bendito sea, bendito sea.

Fuentecita que corre clara y sonora,
Ruiseñor que en la selva,
Cantando llora,
Callan mientras la cuna se balancea.

A la nanita nana, nanita ea,
A la nanita nana, nanita ea.

English translation

Come, let’s sing a little lullaby,
Come, let’s sing a little,
My Jesus is sleepy.
Blessed be, blessed be.

Come, let’s sing a little lullaby,
Come, let’s sing a little,
My Jesus is sleepy.
Blessed be, blessed be.

Little spring that runs clear & sonorous,
Nightingale that in the forest,
Weeps as it sings,
Hush, while the cradle rocks.

Come, let’s sing a little lullaby,
Come, let’s sing a little lullaby.
