Emotional dancing and singing at Church under bishop Mahoney

Dancing girls in semi-transparent dresses on stage in Church

February 17, 2005

Youth Day at the Religious Education Congress in Los Angeles takes place under the direction of Cardinal Roger Mahony.

Above, a dancing group of high-school girls perform in semi-transparent dresses during the Mass celebrated by the Cardinal, who sits in the middle of the stage. A young girl in the foreground in the photo at left also performs and sings for the Youth Day Mass that opened the Youth Congress.

Below, the barefoot girls dance and twirl in the processional aisle on their way up to the altar.

Some time ago, there were rumors that the Vatican had forbidden dancers at the altar. Either Cardinal Mahony didn't hear about any such proscription or the rumors were baseless.
