Brazilian priest blesses voodoo worshippers
Kneeling on a mat, above, we see five women dressed in white while a man also in white with a strange blue hat stands close to them; some steps down the stair there are still a woman and two children in white as well. They are members of the Brazilian voodoo called Macumba or Umbanda. They asked the blessing of the Catholic priest, whose back appears in the photo in the moment when he gives them the blessing. This fact took place on January 26, 2025, after the 6:00 pm Mass. That priest was Fr. Edmildo Leite Alves, parish priest of the Our Lady of Penha Basilica. He blessed a group of voodoo within that Catholic building.
As the priest blessed the voodoo members he, by way of facts, recognized them as a valid religion. Now then, the Brazilian voodoo as the other voodoo sects around the world worship the Devil. Further, by doing so inside of a Catholic Basilica dedicated to Our Lady he committed a grave offense against her.
The devotion to Our Lady of Penha is a traditional devotion in the city of São Paulo. The old Basilica, last row below, became very small to hold the devotees, so a new one was built, first to third rows below.
Fr. Leite, above and fourth row below, is part of the progressivist Pentecostal Movement, in good standing with the Vatican II local hierarchy.
For this very reason, now followers of the Devil such as voodoo members have full access to the temples and benefit from the "blessings" of the Conciliar Church.
