Catholic Bishop concelebrates with Anglican priestess
On August 25, 2025, Bishop Raul Vera, O.P., Bishop Emeritus of Saltillo, Mexico, invited Emilie Teresa Smith, a Canadian Anglican priestess, to concelebrate Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Saltillo. The photos and gifs on this page show Smith concelebrating the Bread and Wine together with Vera, and then the Anglican priestess giving Communion in both Species to herself.
It is a clear sacrilege which raised the indignation of many of the faithful, who criticized the Bishop and complained to the present day Bishop of Saltillo, Hilario Gonzalez,
Gonzalez asked Vera for an explanation. In an interview, Vera reported his encounter with Gonzalez.
Vera argued that when he was the Ordinary of Saltillo he had done exactly the same thing - concelebrated with the priestess - and no one had complained. So, he did not see anything wrong with what he had done. He admitted only that he had failed to notify Gonzalez, and this action as such was a fault of discipline, but he denied any sacrilege was committed.
He also added that his encounter with Gonzalez was very cordial with smiles and laughs. According to the past Bishop Vera, the present Bishop Gonzalez was just concerned about the fact that he, Raul Vera, had posted a video of the Mass on Facebook. No concern about the sacrilege, no talk of an act of reparation, and not even a light censure given to the Bishop Emeritus. The Hierarchy is completely rotten.
Shortly afterward, Pope Leo XIV named Bishop Hilario Gonzalez a member of the Dicastery for the Clergy at the Vatican. An invitation that is a reward for Gonzalez' fidelity to the Conciliar Church...
