Animam meam dilectam is the ninth responsorio for Holy Week. Here Our Lord mourns the complete abandonment that accompanies His infinitely valuable sacrifice. Our Lord has delivered himself into the hands of His enemies, who strip Him of all earthly inheritance and leave Him to die alone and desolate. The Earth itself, along with the powers of nature, mourn the death of their Creator. As the Passion reaches its apex Our Lord is completely abandoned. None, except Our Lady, acknowledges His Mission, none offers Him encouragement or aid.
Animam meam dilectam was composed by Fr. Tomás Luis de Victoria.
It is sung hereby the "Ensemble Corund"

Latin Lyrics:
Animam meam dilectam tradidi in manus iniquorum,
Et facta est mihi haereditas mea, sicut leo in silva.
Dedit contra me voces adversarius meus:
"Congregamini, et properate ad devorandum illum."
Posuerunt me in deserto solitudinis,
Et luxit super me omnis terra.
Quia non est inventus qui me agnosceret,
Et faceret bene.
Insurrexerunt in me viri absque misericordia,
Et non pepercerunt animae meae.
Quia non est inventus qui me agnosceret,
Et faceret bene.
Animam meam dilectam tradidi in manus iniquorum,
Et facta est mihi haereditas mea, sicut leo in silva.
Dedit contra me voces adversarius meus:
"Congregamini, et properate ad devorandum illum."
Posuerunt me in deserto solitudinis,
Et luxit super me omnis terra.
Quia non est inventus qui me agnosceret,
Et faceret bene.
Translation:
I've given my beloved life into the hands of the wicked,
My inheritance has become like a lion in the forest.
The voices of my enemies cried out against me:
"Let us come together and hasten to devour him."
They placed me in a wilderness of desolation,
And all the earth mourned for me.
For there was no one who would acknowledge me,
And give me help.
Men without mercy rose up against me,
And they spared not my life.
For there was no one who would acknowledge me
And give me help.
I've given my beloved life into the hands of the wicked,
My inheritance has become like a lion in the forest.
The voices of my enemies cried out against me:
"Let us come together and hasten to devour him."
They placed me in wilderness of desolation,
And all the earth mourned for me.
For there was no one who would acknowledge me,
And give me help.
