Zelus Domus

Zelus domus tuae is the first antiphon for Maundy Thursday and is based on the first psalm written by King David. The Psalmist, whose son Absalom was plotting to kill him, writes in a prophetic way to foretell the suffering and abandonment of Our Lord during His agony in the Garden of Olives. Here Our Lord Jesus Christ appeals to His Father for help.

Zelus domus tuae is the first nocturne of Tenebrae for Maundy Thursday.
It is here sung by the Schola Antiqua.

Listen to the Zelus domus tuae

Latin Lyrics:

Zelus domus Tuae comedit Me, et opprobria exprobrantium Tibi ceciderunt super me.

Salvum me fac, Deus: quoniam intraverunt aquae usque ad animam Meam.

Zelus domus Tuae comedit Me, et opprobria exprobrantium Tibi ceciderunt super Me.

English Lyrics:

The zeal of Thy house hath consumed Me; and their reproaches against Thee fell upon Me.

Save me, O God: for the waters have entered even unto My soul.

The zeal of Thy house hath consumed Me; and their reproaches against Thee fell upon Me.
