Das Kufsteiner Lied

Tyrolean song

Das Kufsteiner Lied (The Kufstein Song) is a Tyrolean song praising the beauties of Kufstein, an Austrian town close to the German border. The song features yodeling, which is a traditional form of singing found across the Alps throughout Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France and Germany.

Das Kufsteiner Lied was written in 1947 by Karl Ganzer and is here interpreted by Franzl Lang, the Bavarian yodeler known as “The Yodel King.”

German lyrics:

1. Kennst du die Perle, die perle Tirols?
Das Städtchen Kufstein, das kennst du wohl,
Umrahmt von Bergen, so friedlich und still,
Ja, das ist Kufstein am grünen Inn,
Ja, das ist Kufstein am grünen Inn.

(Jodeln) Bei uns in Tirol

(Jodeln) Bei uns in Tirol

3. Und ist der Urlaub dann wieder aus.
So nimmt man Abschied und fährt nach Haus.
Man denkt an Kufstein, man denkt an Tirol,
Mein liebes Städtchen lebe wohl, leb’ wohl,
Mein liebes Städtchen lebe wohl, leb’ wohl.

(Jodeln) Bei uns in Tirol

English translation:

1. Do you know the pearl, the pearl of Tyrol?
The town of Kufstein, you know that,
Surrounded by mountains, so peaceful and quiet,
Yes, that's Kufstein, a green Inn,
Yes, that's Kufstein, a green Inn.

(Yodel) With us in Tyrol

2. There are so many things here in Tyrol:
A good wine from South Tyrol
And some people wish
That it were always like that,
For a meal and glasses of wine,
For a meal and glasses of wine.

(Yodel) With us in Tyrol

3. And then the holiday is over again.
So you take leave and drive home.
One thinks of Kufstein, one thinks of Tyrol,
My dear little town live well, farewell
My dear city live well, farewell.

(Yodel) With us in Tyrol
