I want to thank you for your many good articles.
I unite myself with every Mass which at the time is being offered throughout the world. I place them in the hands of Mary, the Mediatrix of all graces, that she may obtain by this presentation of the Blood of Christ to the most Holy Trinity, the deliverance of souls from purgatory, relief for the sick and dying, the conversion of infidels and sinners and the perseverance of all the faithful. Amen.

Why to Reject Socialism?
To Juan Vargas, Congressman - 52nd District
Dear Congressman Vargas:
I was recently informed that you voted against House Resolution 58, sponsored by Congress member Maria Elvira Salazar, condemning Socialism. (1) I want all of your constituents to know how you voted so that they can know that your vote against resolution 58 means that you support Socialism. Furthermore, Socialism is incompatible with our constitutional form of government and our Christian beliefs.
Socialism Incompatible with USA Constitution &
the Teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Even 86 of your Democratic congressional colleges voted in favor of resolutions 58. Shame on you and others who voted against this important resolution about the truths of Socialism, Communism and Marxism. Not only is Socialism incompatible with our constitutional form of government, but it conflicts with the teachings of the Catholic Church. In your biography you have made it widely known to the voters that not only you are Catholic but attended a seminary to prepare yourself to enter the priesthood. Yet by your vote against resolution 58, you have signaled to all of us that you support Socialism.
In fact, several Popes have condemned Socialism as far back as 1878. In the Encyclical on Socialism, his holiness Pope Leo XIII unequivocally condemns Socialism. Pope Leo XIII says the following in the first paragraph:
"You understand, venerable brethren, that we speak of that sect of men who, under various and almost barbarous names, are called socialists, communists, or nihilists, and who, spread over all the world, and bound together by the closet ties in a wicked confederacy, no longer seek shelter of secret meetings, but openly and boldly marching forth in the light of day, strive to bring to a head what they have long been planning- the overthrow of all civil society whatsoever." Pope Pius XI also spoke about the evils of Communism in 1937. (3)
When I first met you about 30 years ago you marketed yourself to voters as a centrist Democrat, but now you have revealed your true colors, and we have now discovered that you are really a socialist just like the new Mayor of New York City. If we were confused about your ideology, now thanks to congress woman Salazar we finally know that you are a socialist.
I would like to thank congress woman Salazar for having the courage to write resolution 58 which States the truths and about the evils of Socialism. Her resolution does not contradict the Church. It was the Church that had first warned us about of the evils of Socialism back in 1878, before any of the atrocities that were committed in the 20th century. Resolution 58 plainly states that the greatest crimes against humanity were perpetrated by socialist ideologies and many of its leaders were Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il, and in our time the leaders are Kim Jong Un, Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez, and Nicolas Maduro. In our own country former President Obama practiced his own version of Socialism by signing into law the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obama care. This piece of legislation was a pack of lies. First, we were told that if we liked our health plan that we could keep it, and it was not true. The next lie was that we could keep our doctor if we were happy with him. Well, that was not true. The former President also lied about the cost of health care. The only ones that have benefited from the ACA have been the health insurance companies.
Unfortunately, today we are stuck with a costly and heavily subsidized health care system that does not serve people well. Republicans had an opportunity to repeal and replace it with something better several years ago, and that never got done because of a few turncoats in the Republican Party. They will have another opportunity next year, and we will see what happens.
Members of Congress may have condemned Socialism with resolution 58, but I hope they are not declaring victory over Socialism just yet. I have troubling news, Socialism came to America a long time ago. Not only is our health care system a socialist system run by insurance companies with mandates from our government, but Socialism came to America in 1935 with the passage of the Social Security Act, and both parties were complicit in this.
If you don't believe me that our social security system is a communist system, then I will simply ask one question that will prove that it is, and that is who runs the social security system? You got it right: the government does. Even socialist Sweden does not run their social security system.
My Hope for the New Year
My hope for the coming year 2026 is that our elected officials work for the common good and the principles of our constitutional government, and that they resolve to remove the remainder of the socialist policies that are preventing prosperity and the wellbeing of people. Our Constitutional Republic was not founded on the evil ideologies of Socialism, Communism and Marxism. These ideas came from Karl Marx, who was more than likely, demonically possessed by Satan. (5) Only a follower of Satan could have thought of such an evil system.
Our country was founded by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, and many other God fearing men, who believed that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, and among these are the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Government was the guarantor and enforcer of these rights. But unfortunately, many of us discovered during the COVID SCAM that our own government trampled on these unalienable rights, and many members of Congress were complicit in this injustice.
Even more important is that unborn, in many States, their most basic right to life is denied. In many States the mother and father can simply execute the baby for any reason, and many Democrats and some Republicans are fine with this crime against our most innocent and precious babies. Until we can say that all human beings have a right to life, including the unborn, America cannot be one nation under God. Instead, we are a nation that has been taken over by many of the beliefs and ideology of Marxism and Communism. And the core belief of the communists and marxist, is THAT THERE IS NO GOD.
Conclusion
Whether the United States Congress knows it or not our nation is practicing many of the core principles of Communism and Socialism, which is a strong centralized government, and which our core rights come from our government and not from God. Even our so-called Catholic members of Congress ignore the warnings that several Popes have made concerning the evils of Socialism.
My hope is that more members of the Congress will know the evils of Communism, Socialism and Marxism, and instead fight a counter revolution, which involves allowing human beings to develop their own potential, so that they can live up to their responsibility to provide for and to protect their families. I will support any elected officials that work towards that end.
For now, I put my trust in Jesus Christ, who died for an ingrate like me, so that I can have the opportunity to be with him in Heaven. I will continue to fight for God, Country, and my fellow man, and I am willing to die for these core beliefs of our Country and Church, just like many of my Christian ancestors did in the past. For now, I repeat the battle cry of my Mexican Catholic Ancestors who fought for religious liberty in Mexico 100 years ago:
Long live Christ Our King!

As a Benedictine monk, I found one sentence in the recent, edifying post Gravity: A Virtue of Every Good Catholic particularly interesting:
"Gravity implies being serious, being a person who reflects the habit of contemplating elevated things, of one who is happy to think of elevated things and do things of great responsibility. This is what characterizes the man whose horizons are set upon these perspectives."
The attempt to understand the words of Our Holy Father St. Benedict in Chapter 7 of the Holy Rule, On Humility, has taxed and continues to tax many monks and nuns.
For my part I would say that true gravity springs from true humility, which is itself rooted in Fear of the Lord. This Gift of the Holy Spirit is sketched in St. Benedict's first step of humility. Carefully reading that step can keep someone occupied for a lifetime.
