Msgr. Lefèbvre Exhorts His Followers
to Study & Apply Vatican II
Note to the Reader:
After reading Mr. Guimarães last column – Choosing between Pharisees & Sadducees – a friend from Chile sent us an article on the Spanish InfoCatólica website titled Mons. Lefèbvre apoyó Vaticano II, by Fr. Federico Highton, dated February 28, 2026. The author reproduces a document by Msgr. Marcel Lefèbvre, who in 1966 was the Superior General of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit.
In the letter dated January 6, 1966, addressing all the members of that Religious Congregation, Msgr. Lefèbvre praises Council Vatican II and tells them to study and apply all the documents of the Council.
Some years later, on November 1, 1970, he would found the Society of St. Pius X in Switzerland. Today, the members of the latter emphatically affirm to their followers that the SSPX founder always rejected Vatican II. The letter mentioned proves this statement to be false.
On the article’s sources Fr. Highton places a link to the review Our Province of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (vol. 35, n.1, April 1966).
We went to those archives and photocopied the English original text of that document, which we offer below to our readers. The marks in yellow are ours.
