Bishop Albert S. Uy 1

Is this Filipino Bishop declaring his love to a priest?

During the Valentine’s Day Concert in Tagbilaran in the Philippines (here), Bishop Alberto S. Uy took the stage to say some words. In his speech in Tagalog – below last row with a Google translation to English – he joked that he chose the day of St. Valentine for the clergy to perform the concert because he did not want his clergy to be going out on dates that day.

He also recommended those in the audience, which included nuns and clergy, to caress their neighbor and say "I love you today, tomorrow and forever." Certainly these jokes do not sit well with the religious vows of chastity...

Then, Uy went on to sing a potpourri of four love songs with a priest, whom he introduced as Fr. Ado. In one of those songs, “25 Minutes,” the Bishop sings as if he were the man pining for his former lover, while the priest plays the role of the woman missing the man's kisses.

The song continues with the man expressing his desire to return to his past love, but he arrives 25 minutes too late, since this former partner has just gotten married. Then, the newly wedded woman sings that she is also missing his love.

While singing the romantic songs the Bishop and the priest exchange tender gazes with each other, above and below first to fourth rows, as if they were recalling with nostalgia a loving relationship.

We cannot help but wonder if any straight religious man would subject himself to a similar love performance. It seems much more likely that the two men actually have had some homosexual loving relationship, which they now would be making public in a theatrical performance.

In this case, we would have a Bishop who publicly declares his love to another man... It would be crossing another boundary of decency, even in this Gomorrah Church that has been usurping the Catholic Church since Vatican II.

The lyrics of the song they performed follow:

The Bishop:

After some time
I've finally made up my mind;
She is the girl
And I really want to make her mine.
I'm searching everywhere
To find her again,
To tell her I love her
And I'm sorry 'bout the things I've done.

I find her standing in front of the church,
The only place in town where I didn't search.
She looks so happy in her wedding dress
But she's crying while she's saying this:

The priest:

Boy, I've missed your kisses all the time but this is
Twenty five minutes too late.
Though you travelled so far, boy, I'm sorry you are
Twenty five minutes too late.
