Hindu-like Christ at a Jesuit altar in India
We received the photo above and the following letterfrom one of our readers in India:
Greetings from India,
I am a Roman Catholic from India who is quite attached to Traditionalism. I made a few contributions to the website several years ago.
Recently, I happened to visit the Jesuit-run Papal Seminary Complex in the Western Indian city of Pune, where hundreds of young men from different dioceses spanning the Latin, Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara rites are 'trained' as priests.
As part of the Sunday obligation, I had to grudgingly attend Mass in the chapel of Jnana Deepa (the philosophy and theology block). I was shocked to find an Indianized Christ in a loincloth on the wall behind the altar table (mensa).
The Mensa itself is low to accommodate the Jesuit style of Mass. Though the celebrant was dressed in cassock with a stole and chasuble over it, he remained seated and so did the congregation. There was absolutely no genuflection or kneeling and the congregation consisting of seminarians dressed in cassocks and habits (in the case of those belonging to religious congregations) remained seated throughout. On weekdays, it is not uncommon to find someone offering Mass with just a shawl draped over their cassock.
This seems to be the norm in most seminaries and religious houses in India. In some so called Catholic Ashrams and religious houses, the abominable Hindu Mass aka Indian Mass is offered with readings from pagan texts and Sanksrit chants as well. Outside of Mass, the cassocks and habits vanish and all seminarians are seen moving around in casuals or formal attire, not even clericals. In several Jesuit religious houses, Mass is celebrated with just a stole or a shawl thrown over lay attire in the seated fashion.
This seminary is the hotbed of all sorts of heresies, including the so-called 'contexualised theology' that negates the salvific uniqueness of Christ and the role of the Catholic Church in saving souls. I spoke to a seminarian who confided that Summa Theologica is just one module in the Philosophy course, while pride of place is given to modern philosophers and theologians, including Liberation Theologians and the ones who propagate universal salvation and the absurd theory of the Universal Christ.
Kindly find attached the photo of the Mass.
Yours in Christ...
To show that this reader is correct when he says that the painting on the wall is of a "Indianized Christ," we present some photos of Hindu deities in similar dancing poses below.
