Anyone who would believe, especially those familiar with the Christian position, that this book should be considered either offensive or antithetical to Judaism, has obvious misconceptions about the author's intent for writing it.

Tertullian's purpose for writing this apologetic defense of the Christian Religion, was not motivated by any hatred or contempt for the Jewish people. Instead, this work, For the Conversion of the Jews, was intended to upbraid and reprove the Jews for their inadequate interpretations of Scripture, and their failing, even to this day, to recognize and accept Jesus Christ as Emmanuel, the Anointed One and Messiah, ordained by God.

Written between the late 2nd and early 3rd centuries during the Roman persecutions, Tertullian sought to prove that the prophecies of the Hebrew Scriptures were fulfilled and sealed through the Incarnation of Jesus. That this belief should prove transformational for anyone Jewish is self-evident. Especially, for those first centuries Jews who answered the call to become the first Christians

Fort this is why the Jewish people were referred to as "chosen" in the first place: As a people tasked by God to bring the economy of salvation to the Gentiles of the world. And Tertullian is inviting this remnant portion of unbelieving Jews to the banquet table, where they may partake the fruits of their intended destiny – by bearing witness to Scripture's fulfillment foretold by their own Prophets.

Never before have both the Israelite descended nations, and those remaining non-Christian people of the earth, been in greater need of this polemic. As the world edges ever closer toward a global military conflagration, and all sides point accusatory fingers at their neighbors, this proof of the Mosaic Law as temporary and fulfilled in Christ, is the precise antidote for warding off the specter of mutually assured destruction (MAD).
