Fr. Somerville, Latin Prayers & Dollar Bill

Fr. Somerville's Operation

I thought your readers would be interested to know that Fr. Stephen Somerville is recuperating from a serious heart operation for a mitral valve repair. It was a five-hour surgery on March 23, 2012.

He is recovering now and doing well, the doctors say. He can receive mail and cards at:

St. John's Rehab Hospital,
285 Cummer Avenue,
Toronto, ON M2M 2G1
Phone 416-226-6780
Email: info@stjohnsrehab.com

I am sure he will appreciate the mail during this period of rehabilitation. Father sends his greetings and thanks to all those who are praying for him.

Graces from Our Lady Aparecida

To Whom It May Concern:

I have been searching for the address to the church in Brazil for your Saint Nossa Senhora Aparecida.

I pray her prayer every day for my request; I have been helped by her. It has been 2 ½ years I have collected all the pennies I find out on the streets or stores. I want to send that money to her church because she answered my prayers for my son to find a job and he did and even has become a supervisor.

I too was out of job for four years and now I have a good job that I enjoy. Thanks to God and your Saint.

Please respond, I want to send the money to Brazil.

TIA responds:

Thank you for sending this testimony of the favors you received from Our Lady Aparecida, Patroness of Brazil. If in any way the comments posted on our website contributed to your devotion to her, we are gratified.

The address of the central Sanctuary of Aparecida in Brazil follows:

Santuario Nacional Nossa Senhora Aparecida
Av. Júlio Prestes
Aparecida - São Paulo - 12570-000

Our Lady of Mercy

I noticed that on your Saints page that the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy/Ransom is not posted. This Feast is on September 24. Also that of the Founder of the Order of Our Lady of Mercy, St Peter Nolasco, which is in the old Calendar on January 28.

The difference between the Mercedarian Order and that of the Trinitarians is that the Mercedarians, take a fourth Vow, for the Redemption of Captives. Meaning they themselves will be a ransom, should there be no funds. There have been a number of Mercedarian Martyrs, for this Fourth Vow.

      Thank you,

May Our Lord Jesus and Our Lady of Mercy/Ransom keep you ever near their loving Hearts

TIA responds:

Thank you for your clarification.

Some comments on Our Lady of the Mercy, the Order of the Mercedarians and St. Peter Nolasco can be found on the life of St. Raymond of Peñafort here.

Aves Seen as Roses

What is the source of the wonderful illustration for Aves Seen as Roses?

Also, do you have a higher resolution image you could send me? I'd like to use it in a book I'm writing.

      Prof. L.T., University of California

TIA responds:

Prof. L.T.,

The German line drawing of the legend of the monk and the robbers - "Aves seen as Roses" - can be found in the book Stories of the Rose by Anne Winston-Allen.

We do not have a high resolution image.

We hope this is of some help to you.

Mother Teresa & Mosque

Thank you for all the work you do; I enjoy reading your daily updates and have discovered Catholic culture thanks to your library of fine articles and to the gracious tone that radiates from your website!

I found this link and wanted to share it with you. I was surprised that the moderators of the Spirit Daily web-site seemed to be surprised at Mother Teresa's request for a mosque (see this article) since they seem to be consistently tolerant and accepting of modernist Catholicism.

      May God bless you!

The Kissing Pope

Subject: Your postings on the kissing Pope (here, here, here, here &here)

Consider that the Gospel tells us to salute one another with a holy kiss. Romans 16:16, 1 Cor 16:20, 2 Cor 13:12, 1 Tess 5:26, 1 Peter 5:14

      Just sayin’!

Prayers in Latin

Dear Tradition in Action,

May God Bless you mightily for your website! I have only just discovered it.

I notice on the site that Dr. Horvat has translated many of the materials (including the Novena to Our Lady of Good Success). I am trying to locate the original Latin versions of prayers and novenas of the saints and would greatly appreciate any information or resources that could assist me in this.

      Yours in Christ,

TIA responds:

Dear A.M.,

Thank you for your kind words on our website.

We have posted in Latin all the prayers included in the Rosary here, the most common traditional daily prayers here, the Exorcism here and the short prayer to St. Michael the Archangel here.

In other sources, you may find the Litany of All Saints in Latin here; buy the Roman Martyrology (the approved saints of the Church) both in Latin and English here; Copy the litany of Sacred Heart of Jesus here, Litany of Our Lady of Loreto or Litania Lauretana here.

We hope this data may help you.

A New Dollar Bill

A lady in Monte Vista, CO, had this dollar bill. This is her story. You don't think we're in a war???

Allah dollar bill

These are starting to show up around our country! After dinner she took a $1 dollar bill out of her purse and displayed it on the table. Underneath the words "In God We Trust" someone had stamped the dollar bill in red ink---NO GOD BUT ALLAH.

We asked her where she had gotten this dollar bill. She said it was part of her change in Alamosa , CO .

We took a picture of her dollar bill. If anyone tries to give you one of these dollar bills as change, please refuse it and ask them to give you a dollar bill that has not been defaced. Send this on to everyone you know, please.

God bless our USA !

And, He'd better bless it quickly before what we know and love is forever gone!
