Saint Philomena Feast Day

Dr. Horvat, TIA et al.,

Below is written by Mr. J.K who has been in front of 'the mills' - largest in Ohio by far. Each Saturday he drives about 60 miles for over 14 years to visit the statue of St. Philomena.

May all at TIA have a beautiful Feast of St. Philomena Day!

Our feast here is at 3 PM at the site of the restored statue. A second dwarf white hydrangea has been planted.

Please check this slide show I made in honor of St. Philomena

     E.K.

Dear E.K.,

I had my 2nd anniversary celebration of the feast day of Saint Philomena today, Sunday August 9, 2015.

I prayed the Saint Philomena prayer on the back of the beautiful card that you gave to me. I prayed the propers for the Mass of a virgin-martyr. And I prayed the Rosary.

I pictured the procession of virgin-martyrs following the Blessed Virgin Mary to include Saint Philomena.

I noticed you expanded your artwork on the base of the statue. It looks exquisite! You have lit a torch shining in East Cleveland to dispel the darkness.

As I was leaving I talked with a young man in the neighborhood and explained to him that Saint Philomena was a young woman who would rather die than compromise her faith in Jesus Christ and His Church. I told him to ask her to intercede to God for something that he needed. He was a polite young and I pray that his prayer may be answered to increase his faith.

     A soldier of Saint Philomena,

     J.K.

What is Gallicanism?

TIA,

What it is Gallicanism?

G.C.

TIA responds:

G.C.,

Gallicanism is a pretension that is held in France (Galia in Latin) born from an exaggerated nationalism. It imagines itself so important that the Pope and the Catholic Church should be obedient to the French authorities.

It is similar to Anglicanism, which is an analogous English pretension. In England, however, Anglicanism became a religion, which did not happen with Gallicanism in France.

Gallicanism is an old tendency in France that goes back to the Middle Ages. King Philip the Fair, for example, obliged the Popes to move from Rome to Avignon to be under his control. Napoleon, as well, imprisoned and kidnapped respectively Popes Pius VI and Pius VII with a similar intent.

In the time between these two examples, many other kings of France revealed Gallican tendencies. The most expressive of them was Louis XIV, who also tried to dominate the Church and the Pope, but was duly confronted and defeated in his pretensions by Blessed Pope Innocent XI.

Catholic History in Florida

Dear TIA,

I just had to write and let you know how excited I was to just come across your articles about the First Thanksgivings in America (here, here and here).

The family is taking a long road trip next week stopping in Natchez, Mississippi, a beautiful antebellum town, then heading on to northwestern Florida to stay there for about a week. We'll finish up with a quick weekend in New Orleans, where we'll tour the Shrine to Our Lady of Prompt Succor and see some of the other historical/religious sites.

I am doing a little research to see if I can incorporate any history and/or religion into our week and came upon your articles that way. I've printed them up to read to the children in the car.

     In Jesu et Maria,

     A.G.

Planned Parenthood's Disgrace

Gov. Jindal Announces Termination of
Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast Medicaid Contract

August 3, 2015 - Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the termination of the State of Louisiana's Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

As explained in the Governor's press release, the termination was based on the "at will" provision of the Medicaid Provider Agreement. This exercise of the "at will" contract provision seems to be a unique approach from other States who added abortion-free requirements as a condition for qualifying as a state-approved Medicaid provider. As explained in the Jindal press release:

"According to the Medicaid provider contract between DHH and Planned Parenthood, along with relevant Louisiana law, either party can choose to cancel the contract at will after providing written notice."

The termination based on the "at will" provision follows on the heels of the horrifying videos revealing Planned Parenthood's policy that allows its abortion providers to harvest the body parts of aborted unborn children. The press release referenced the videos and concluded that the State of Louisiana:

"decided to give the required 30-day notice to terminate the Planned Parenthood Medicaid provider contract because Planned Parenthood does not represent the values of the State of Louisiana in regards to respecting human life."

The Jindal-ordered investigation into Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast is on-going, and the press release noted that the State reserves the right to amend the grounds of the cancellation notice by terminating the Medicaid provider agreement under the "for cause" provisions as well.

Currently, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast operates two non-abortion providing family-planning clinics in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and they are building a large regional center on Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans for the express purpose of selling elective abortion.

Governor Jindal concluded his press statement by noting that Planned Parenthood's narrow provision of family-planning services are easily replaceable with the multitude of public, private and non-profit health centers that provide women's health services along with comprehensive healthcare for women, men and children:

"Louisiana's Medicaid Family Planning Services program is required to provide adequate services to women across the state. Cancellation of this contract at will does not jeopardize those services in any way as Planned Parenthood is just one of many providers in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans area."
